Translation

When I started out as a self-employed translator in 2005 the sector was very different than it is now. There were few TM (Translation Memory) or MT (Machine Translation) solutions on the market and who had even heard of Google translate? The tools available were clunky and prone to errors (ever tried TagEditor?). One of my teachers at ESIT still dictated her translations onto a cassette recorder and had them typed up by someone else. Human input and output were everything.
These days, AI is everywhere and the role of the translator has changed significantly – now we verify and validate rather than create original translations from scratch. Rather than moan about the trend, I have embraced new technologies and now accept post-editing projects far more often than pure translation. This is the way.
Gladly though, some still require a fully human piece of work, especially for confidential and sensitive documents. And AI can’t (yet!) put a “Certified” stamp on an official document.

Some CAT tools I am familiar with and use on a fairly regular basis:
SDL Trados, Lokalize, Phrase/Memsource, Across, MemoQ, Wordbee. Some I’ve used in the past: Idiom, Wordfast, Déjà Vu, Star Transit.

Translation Services offered:
Technical (Nuclear, Renewable energies, Electricity, Engineering, Automotive)
Financial (Financial statements and company accounts, End of year reports, Sustainability reports, corporate documents, market briefs)
Editorial (HR reports, e-learning, media publications, press releases, advertising)
Website and software localisation, SEO

Certified translation: diplomas, degree certificates, personal documents such as marriage certificates, birth certificates, etc.

Confidentiality & Compliance
I often work on sensitive, highly confidential projects concerning corporate asset sales, HR projects, and more, so I am often asked to sign non-disclosure agreements. All part of the service!
In financial translation, errors can have serious repercussions, especially if they result in regulatory non-compliance or miscommunication with investors. Self-checks on quality and accuracy are imperative.

Interpreting

I offer interpreting services in the community – whether with social services, care teams, healthcare or refugee organisations. Fully DBS compliant.
